Meet Cameron Maguire, Our Regional & Client Manager

Monday 15th July 2024

Cameron Maguire
Regional Client Manager

Cameron started with us all the way back in 2017 as a Senior Estate Manager to help us bolster our customer-facing team and to ensure that as the business grows, we are still able to continue to provide an exceptional service to residents on our managed estates.

Cameron previously worked for our parent company, Encore (encoreestates.co.uk), and then secured a role with us as Head of Leasehold Management before beginning his current role as Regional & Client Manager in 2022.

Cameron has shared some insight into what a typical day looks like, for him.

What are usually your very first tasks of the day?

I always check to see what emails have come in overnight, and I also check the calendar to see what meetings or tasks I have coming up each day and over the next few days. Despite not managing a portfolio directly, the number of emails I receive, and meetings I need to attend is significant! With the number of schemes we are working on, meetings happen often so I need to make sure I manage my time carefully.

What are the main responsibilities of your job?

I oversee one half of the Estate Management team at Preim, including Estate Managers, Property Managers and Assistant Property Managers, some of whom work remotely.

I am also responsible for relationships with some of our key developer clients, where I oversee the teams managing the portfolio of sites they have with Preim. This includes a significant number of large, mixed-use, “garden village” style developments throughout the country, each of which has a variety of interesting and unique community facilities and assets.

Given my background and expertise managing leasehold developments, I also manage the insurance for all Preim’s developments as well as having a significant input on health and safety, fire safety, and compliance elements.

What does your team look like?

I have a team of 12, made up of experienced Estate Managers and Property Managers and some Assistant Property Managers. I work very closely with my fellow senior colleagues at Preim, Oliver Taylor and Michael Westwood, as well as having daily contact and regular catch ups with my direct team members, and the wider support staff at Preim and Encore.

What is the key focus for you and your team right now?

The nature of my clients and their developments – many of which are strategic, phased developments which might be built out over a decade or more – means that our focus is constantly evolving.

However, we’re always working on handovers of new and upcoming phases, be that snagging visits of completed phases, or creating new budgets for future phases yet to be started.

We also continue to manage and maintain existing developments, and we’re always seeking to provide an excellent service for our customers, ensuring we meet their expectations concerning the management of their estates and properties.

Can you share some details on a key or exciting project you’re working on right now?

We’ve just been appointed to work on a regeneration scheme in East London which could eventually include approximately 20,000 dwellings. In fact, it’s one of the largest brownfield regeneration schemes in Europe, which makes it extremely exciting to be a part of.

It’s great to get started on a new scheme as you can get stuck into the details of budgeting and site setup, but we are also setting up a new estate staffing structure for this scheme, so that is allowing us to meet with lots of potential new recruits.

What do you enjoy most about your job? What parts of your job do you find particularly rewarding?

I really like seeing my team gain confidence as they experience new and exciting challenges in their workload, and work through certain issues. There’s no doubt it’s a varied profession, so although it’s a cliché, no two days are ever the same which does make it interesting and keeps you on your toes!

I also love being involved with major works projects where you can see genuine improvements being made to the developments, as that is a very tangible aspect of what a Managing Agent does, and it enables our customers to see where their money is being spent.

As I’m no longer directly managing a portfolio myself, my involvement in this area is purely advisory. Property management is a team sport and one of the things I love about it is the collaborative way in which we work, making great use of individual experience and expertise.

At the end of the day or the working week, how do you relax?

Evenings and weekends are busy for me with two small children, currently aged 2 and 4. We love to travel, often planning short trips abroad or adventures in our camper van. Camping in Spain is a favourite summer pastime and a definite highlight of our year.
