Enhancing Safety and Aesthetics: Resurfacing at Bulford

Friday 19th July 2024

At the Preim managed Bulford estate in Wiltshire, we recently undertook a significant project to enhance both the safety and appearance of the communal spaces.

This initiative involved removing an unstable wall, installing a replacement barrier, resurfacing the car park and line marking the parking bay areas.

The Project Scope

Our primary concern was an unstable wall in the car park, which posed a significant safety risk. To address this, the decision was taken to remove the wall entirely to keep costs to a minimum. In addition, the car park surfacing had become worn over time, so we took the opportunity to resurface the entire area, bringing it up to the standard of a neighboring car park that had recently been refurbished.

Execution

Preim appointed Building Initiative Ltd, a surveying firm to oversee the project. Hawkes Projects Ltd were contracted to undertake the work. The team efficiently removed the dangerous wall and laid down a fresh surface for the car park road. To ensure long-term safety, we then installed a robust barrier to replace the removed wall.

Before and After

The transformation of the car park is remarkable. The new surface not only looks cleaner and more modern but also significantly enhances the aesthetic of the overall estate. The photos of the state of the car park before the work was undertaken reveal the stark improvement and the detailed work that went into the project.

Challenges and Resolutions

As with any major project, we encountered a few challenges along the way. One notable challenge involved the measurement of parking bays.

With nearly non-existent lines remaining visible prior to the resurfacing, the contractors had to estimate the best possible layout. After the work was completed, we discovered that three of the parking bays were slightly off by a few centimeters, exceeding the tolerance limit.

We addressed this issue promptly. After a meeting with residents, the measurements were corrected, and now all bays match the original layout as it was prior to the works project, ensuring a satisfactory resolution for everyone involved.

Positive Impact

The improvements at the Bulford go beyond aesthetics. The removal of the leaning wall and installation of the new barrier have significantly boosted safety for both residents and visitors.

The fresh, even surface of the car park makes it more pleasant, safe and convenient to use, too.

Overall, the project has not only revitalised a key area of the estate but has also reinforced our commitment to maintaining a safe and attractive environment for the estate community, benefiting residents for years to come.
