A new pub for Tadpole Garden Village

A local pub is often considered the hub of a community – whether that’s as a place to meet with friends, to grab a meal with family or have a neighbours’ gathering.  That’s why Crest Nicholson was delighted to announce plans for a new pub to serve its 1,855 home community, Tadpole Garden Village in Swindon, in September 2018.  

After securing land from Crest Nicholson for the development of the pub, Wiltshire brewery, Arkell’s, is excited to embark on its first new-build pub in 15 years.  

An important addition for a growing community 

Speaking about the recently announced plans, George Arkell, brewery director at Arkell’s, said: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to build a pub for the community. We’ve been rooted in Swindon for 175 years, and it’s great to be able to make this announcement in our special anniversary year. Tadpole Garden Village is an enormous project and our new pub will not only offer residents a place to socialise, but provide the community with a vital hub for local activities.” 

Crest Nicholson’s strategic projects managing director, Andrew Dobson, added: “The new pub by Arkell’s will be a wonderful addition to our thriving new community at Tadpole Garden Village. It’s great to be supporting a local business, especially one with such a strong heritage and links with the local area.” 

Chris Tanner, Preim’s community mobiliser for the development in the South West of England, has helped progress plans for this exciting new addition to the growing community.  

Involving the Tadpole Garden Village community in plans for their pub 

Of course, building a new pub needs the backing of the community – the pub will be a space for residents to gather after all, and that’s something Chris Tanner was acutely aware of.  

With that in mind, Chris organised a ‘Taste of Arkell’s’ event in November 2018 for residents to exclusively preview plans for the new Arkell’s pub. 150 residents joined Chris throughout the evening – a fantastic sign of how excited this new community is about the prospect of a village pub.  

At the event, residents heard about the pub’s location and plans for a mix of dining options, including an outside terrace, a pizza oven, a games room and much more.  

The next steps for a Tadpole Garden Village pub 

With the community on board with plans for their new pub, planning is due to be submitted in November 2018, with building on site starting Easter-time 2019.  

By the end of 2019, Tadpole Garden Village residents should be raising a glass to celebrate their new community pub!
