Kilnwood fun day

A core part of Preim’s work is to help strengthen new communities, empower residents and bring neighbours together.

On Saturday 30 September the first ever Kilnwood Vale Autumn community event achieved just that.

Funded by Crest Nicholson and Organised by Preim’s community mobiliser in Kilnwood Vale, Sarah New, the event welcomed 200 residents – a brilliant turnout!

The fun day was hosted at a green in the centre of Kilnwood Vale – a 2,500 home development in West Sussex – and brought stalls and activities from local businesses and charities for residents to explore.

Sarah explained: “Preim and Crest Nicholson wanted the afternoon to showcase some of the wonderful traditional industries local to Kilnwood Vale. The event was an opportunity for residents to get to know what’s on offer nearby.”

Food and drink were on offer from local Tilgate Bakery and Hepworth Brewery, with ice creams from T & M Ices and hot drinks to warm up after from the Four Fillies.

“It was fantastic to see local sports clubs Crawley FC and K2 come along to the event too – there was something for everyone with football, cricket and even a bit of parkour,” added Sarah.

The event also welcomed craft stalls with a selection of local art from decorated glassware to decorated horseshoes and local wood products (the area is renowned for its blacksmiths and woodwork). The face-painting tent also proved hugely popular!

Events like these are crucial in helping people feel at home in a new development. As Sarah explained, “the event is just one step in helping to foster a sense of community spirit, which is why we’re busy organising the next one already!”
