Creating Communities

Developers are much more than simply house builders. Creating communities that in turn stimulate community growth, engagement and a sense of pride, is fundamental to future housing development.

With the assistance of a professional managing agent such as Preim, developers are able to provide a community footprint that will stand the test of time and become a legacy for future generations.

It is about creating sustainable developments and communities where people are encouraged to stay and put down roots because they not only have better homes and a great quality of life, they can also bring up a family safe in the knowledge that the scale and scope of the social infrastructure on their doorstep will support them over the coming years, as their needs change.

A sense of community and belonging

Being part of a new community in itself engenders togetherness and belonging. Everyone has a common thread. Harnessing this for the greater good of the wider community is important and this is where the developer and managing agent make a real difference.

For instance, Preim continues to work with Crest Nicholson and its partner developers on their development projects, Monksmoor Park and Tadpole Garden Village, featuring over 2,500 homes in total.

Community Interest Companies have been established for the purposes of owning and maintaining the development’s green spaces and public realm. Preim is responsible for administering the Community Interest Company.

In addition, we have also helped Crest to ‘mobilise’ these growing new communities through our Community Mobilisers and a range of events.

How Preim helps create communities

Our Community Mobilisers are an integral part of a fledgling community. They help newcomers meet and get to know their neighbours and help set up a community website, newsletters, social networking channels and forum groups. They are also instrumental in starting up social events such as country walks, summer picnics and other gatherings.

The aim is to encourage neighbourliness and build more socially aware and inclusive developments. Our Community Mobilisers are very much part of the place making team, creating communities where people live, work and play.

We also think it’s important to enable local people to shape their communities by getting more involved in them and taking ownership and, ultimately pride, in the local environment. It’s about empowering localism.

Here are just some of the ways we are helping these communities to achieve this:

  • Helping set up community allotments and establishing a food co-operative.
  • Empowering residents to take on and resolve community issues.
  • Co-ordinating developer-funded projects such as public art projects.
  • Championing the green spaces and encouraging residents to do the same.
